This is really well delivered and the sound is represented so well to go with it.
'Meat And Candy'? Let's see Mary Portas make that shop a success! Released on Sony Nashville, so you know this is supposed to be a hit, Old Dominion are ever so excited to be releasing their full-length debut, together for eight years and proud owners of twenty-two million streams for their EP. They might as well be, if chart friendly Indie is the apotheosis of your aspiration.
This album has eleven tracks, most of which show the same construction; simple beats, clapping backing, ringing riffs and half Rapped vocals. If you like that, it's great, but eleven examples of "chart fare" are not always the cream in your coffee.
The highlights are the listed chorus in a laidback, Poppy 'Crazy Beautiful Sexy' which I was singing the day after hearing and The Cars approach, bubbly synth and sharp riff to 'Snapback', but generally we have the acoustic-led sparseness of 'Song For Another Time' and 'Fast Car'-stealing 'Nowhere Fast'. Oh, and the chart fodder of soft as duck feather 'Break Up With Him', which is probably good for the kids.
This is really well delivered and the sound is represented so well to go with it. They also seem to be fairly good looking blokes. You could imagine them in music mags. Hope they manage it, but for us old Rock lags, there's not much meat to chew on, just bonbons sweet enough to strip your enamel.
