Since their formation in 2008, The Treatment were quickly marked out as young Rockers to watch. Their debut album 'This Might Hurt' was well-received and they played several high profile shows, opening for the likes of Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy, Status Quo, Mötley Crüe and KISS.

After the release of their second album 'Running With The Dogs', an announcement was made that their vocalist Matt Jones had quit the band. Replacing the singer is a notoriously difficult task, and to do that the group recruited Mitchel Emms, who some people saw on television as a hopeful on the BBC show 'The Voice'.

I saw the band live supporting Little Caesar in 2011 and they had a lot of youthful energy and some good songs, and vocalist Jones had a good Rock voice. However, after hearing this new effort with new boy Emms on lead vocals, the band have really stepped up a level. As soon as you hear 'Let It Begin' everything falls into place. The band's energetic, Hard Rock, AC/DC style riffing beautifully nestles next to Emms superb voice, and for good measure the chorus grabs you immediately.

Things continue on from there – 'The Devil' has even more of AC/DC about it but is less plagiaristic than Airborne, while 'Tell Us The Truth' is a breakneck Rocker. The title track has everything you'd expect from a Treatment track, with pounding drums, throbbing bass and scathing riffs, with the new singer's voice the added bonus. Emms has given the band a new dimension, especially on the more commercial 'Backseat Heartbeat', and offers them more possibilities than his predecessor.

There's a few tracks where I thought the lyrics were a bit banal, particularly 'Light The Sun', 'Bloodsucker' and 'Cry Tough', but the quality of the riffs and Emms' exceptional singing paper over those cracks. The sonics on the album are phenomenal with the drums sounding crisp in a very punchy mix.

Frontiers have been making a lot of noise about Classic Rock albums from Inglorious and Last In Line, and with this effort, The Treatment's new album should be put in the same bracket. While Emms doesn't have quite as big a range as fellow 'The Voice' contestant Nathan James, I actually warmed to him quicker. He delivers great quality vocals without overdoing it and the band have responded by penning their strongest record to date. Highly enjoyable!

  • SeaDog57 : just an observation. I just got Issue 89 at the Bookstore and when i looked at the spine of the magazine it says "Fireworks Issue 85 Winter Jan - Mar 2019" Was this a misprint? The rest of the Magazine is Issue 89. Was just wondering did anyone else notice this?
