Kick back, open a beer and join the party.

What’s not to like about Buckcherry with the down to earth infectious brand of rock’n’roll? The band are not claiming to reinvent the wheel but certainly know how to keep it spinning with their new release ‘All Night Long’. The title track kicks things off in fine fashion with a guitar sound that’s like a cocktail of classic Kiss and AC/DC.

Josh Todd has lost none of the rock’n’roll rasp in his voice, and his distinctive tone sets him apart from the competition. Lets be honest so few bands really know how to play this brand of rock’n’roll with any real conviction. Take ‘It’s A Party’, in the hands of anyone else this would just be a cliché ridden anthem, but in the hands of these guys you know they mean what they sing. The drums introduce the song with a beat not unlike Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ before Josh Todd’s whiskey soaked voice hits the parts that other singers can’t. Let’s not forget the rest of the guys as the guitar work has a classic Guns ‘n’ Roses swagger, something sadly lacking from Axl Rose and his henchmen these days!

The most enjoyable moments are when the band reveals their more sensitive moments as in evidence on ‘These Things’. The song has a subdued vocal and an almost swing beat before the fire of the chorus brings the song to life. Much like AC/CD’s ‘Black Ice’ offering there may be more filler than killer but that takes nothing away from the songs sonically.

When the band take chances, like on ‘I Want You’, there is enough light and shade in the music to keep you returning to the song time and time again.
Keeping with the familiar theme of ‘Lit Up’, ‘Recovery’ has the band blasting out of the garage full throttle again. If you think its all sex drugs and rock’n’roll then ‘Our World’ will surprise you with its ecological theme of the problems facing our environment.. The song itsself is one of the standout tracks on offer and the strong melody of the chorus will no doubt help to get the message across.

If like me you have been a fan of this band for some time then there is little to disappoint or surprise, and its business as usual. Most of these songs will find their place in the live environment backed by the visual onslaught of the bands stage presence, but for now kick back, open a beer and join the party.
