Budding guitarists will be inspired, seasoned professionals will be invigorated, anyone with a penchant for guitar instrumentals will be overjoyed.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of Guitarist Instrumental records. However, Chris Green is an entirely different prospect altogether, and somebody I will always have a lot of time for, as although he is capable of shredding just as well as the best of them, he displays remarkable restraint in favour of an unerring sense of melody and style. In my humble opinion he is an absolute master at his chosen instrument who can quite easily compete with the most highly regarded guitarists – it also helps that he is one of the nicest guys on the planet.

I first stumbled across Chris' talents about fifteen years ago, in Limerick, Ireland, of all places. I had travelled there to see a Danny Vaughn acoustic show, and Chris' band Pride were the opening act. A Melodic Rock fan's dream, Pride had everything; supreme musicianship, amazing stage presence and awesome songs! Needless to say, I became a huge fan overnight and to this day they remain one of my favourite bands. Of course, in 2005 Pride morphed into the much heavier and more contemporary Furyon, releasing two stunning albums to date, although Chris is no longer an official member he returned to co-write and perform on their second record 'Lost Salvation'. He also has the excellent Rubicon Cross debut album to his name with Firehouse vocalist CJ Snare, along with numerous other guest appearances with the likes of Faithhealer, Harry Hess, Already Ghosts and Rage Of Angels. For me though, the pinnacle came in 2014 when my all-time favourite guitarist became a full-time member of my all-time favourite band; Tyketto. Chris has slotted into his new role perfectly, not only can he deliver Brooke St. James' awesome solos just as well as their creator, he has also added a whole new dimension of creativity into the band, perfectly demonstrated on their stunning new album 'Reach' which is currently rewarding the band with a whole new army of fans.

Which brings us onto the 'Unveil' EP, Chris Green's first solo release, deomonstrating his melodic approach to technical lead guitar playing like never before. Assisted by Mark Tremonti's drummer Garrett Whitlock, Chris has delivered the perfect showcase for his talents that smartly avoids self-indulgence in favour of a highly listenable and melodic treat that encompasses every style Chris is famed for while also containing a Progressive element.

Now I'm not going to make out I'm a guitar expert and attempt to describe the amount of clean picking, displaced notes, pentatonic licks or superimposed arpeggios Chris uses here (if any!), but what I can tell you is that any fan of guitar-based music will adore this release. Yet what makes it so absorbing is when you read the accompanying notes and find out how the EP is influenced by Chris' late father Dave Green, guitarist with seventies Progressive band Deep Feeling and a major instigator in Chris' career.

The EP opens with 'Undefeated', a serene, slow-tempo composition dominated by beautiful melodies and neatly embellished with powerful string parts, then 'Unveil' really kicks the EP into life, bringing in a heavier sound on a composition influenced by Chris' love of a combination of neoclassical instrumentals and drop-tuned guitars. 'Once Forgotten' is the EP's most complex piece, six minutes of highly Progressive music with passages of music that never repeat and truly showcase the jaw-dropping talents of the creator. 'Remember' is simple beauty; a gentle acoustic tune with a stunning lead melody, while 'Welcome For A Soldier' is Chris' interesting and clever interpretation of the Deep Feeling song, recorded as a tribute and with the proceeds to be donated to Cancer Research.

Budding guitarists will be inspired, seasoned professionals will be invigorated, anyone with a penchant for guitar instrumentals will be overjoyed.
