Reckless Love - Electric Ballroom (UK) - 19 November 2016

So Reckless Love are back at the Electric Ballroom and for their fans it never gets old. The place is full with adoring fans screaming and ogling these boys and it's like the heady deals of The Sunset Strip all over again... just for an hour or so. Like all truly successful bands, while the music is undoubtedly there, they take care to make eye contact with fans and acknowledge and interact with them and that's what makes a true star and cements a loyal tribe.

Indeed, Olli Herman takes care to thank the fans for buying the music and merchandise and making the band's dreams come true before segueing into 'Edge Of Our Dreams' during which Pepe Reckless delivers a solo with real feeling and an unbelievably pure sound verging on the sublime. Whilst flirting and swaying his hips from side to side, Herman reassures the crowd they like all nationalities of the fairer sex after delivering 'Scandinavian Girls'. The song, along with the whole of the latest album is, in fact, Pop genius, while Pepe Reckless' solos deliver the Metal edge required to compliment the band's excellent image (lamentably lacking in a lot of modern bands, but not here).

The crowd is complimented again before the band break into the monster riffs of 'Born To Break Your Heart'. Herman has all the Rock God moves – Dave Lee Roth style gymnast high kicks, the side lean back Axl Rose style with microphone and his own Caribbean-influenced hip swivelling designed to reduce the crowd to jello. However, these guys are not just heart-throbs, they deliver infectious, well played songs. They involve an already engaged crowd in a sing and answer on 'Animal Attraction', but despite describing their drummer as a 'Sleazy Jesus' this band have an innocent, smiley Brian Cox style, feel good vibe which translates to enjoyment for the crowd almost instantly and has just enough of that Elvis Presley hip swivelling sex appeal to keep all the girls (and some of the boys?) transfixed.

Herman takes the time to introduce everybody, including their sound and merchandise team, and having told the crowd how grateful they are that this part of London city changed their lives forever and how much it means to the band, they form the traditional four man goodbye, before they leave their young fan base staring after them. Even for those a bit longer in the tooth, this band are a breath of fresh air among younger bands who seem to have forgotten the art of the Rock Star.
