If you're a long-time fan you'll get a big kick out of hearing these songs. Even if you're not, it's great way to start listening to the band's music.

Main Editor Bruce Mee sounded very surprised when I asked to review this album by Enuff Z'Nuff. "Really?" he exclaimed. "Yes", I replied and went on to explain that for some reason the music of EZN, in all their ramshackle Rock 'n' Roll glory, had always been a joy to listen to. I kind of understood his surprise because he knows of my old love for all things AOR/Melodic Rock/Prog etc., so liking a band who seem to record albums by entering the studio and just making the songs up as they go would seem a departure from my usual listening pleasures. I still think that over the many years that the band have been together (in whatever configuration) they have recorded some truly great music.

'Clowns Lounge', their new album, is no exception to this rule. However, a word of caution must be added, this is not a new album as such. Instead, it features songs and demos (although the sound on the CD is fantastic) recorded around the same time the band were making their first album for ATCO Records. For an old-time fan like me that's a boon because most of the songs feature the classic line-up of Donnie Vie, Chip Z'Nuff, Derek Frigo and Vikki Foxx with some guest appearances from the late Jani Lane and James "JY" Young of Styx rounding things off nicely.

'Runaway', the superb 'Back In Time', 'Devil Of Shakespeare', 'Round And Round', 'Nothing', 'She Makes It Harder', 'Back In Time' and the Rock 'n' Roll-tastic 'Backstreet Kids' are all great songs, and show us all just why EZN have been around for as long as they have. It's also remarkable just how fresh the songs all sound, especially when you consider that they are, for the most part, almost thirty years old now. Finally, one other track to look out for is 'Dog On A Bone', a brand new song that shows us that EZN still have what it takes in spades to write great Rock tunes.

If you're a long-time fan of Enuff Z'Nuff you'll get a big kick out of hearing these songs. Even if you're not, it's great way to start listening to the band's music and you will then have a lot of fun getting hold of their fabulous back catalogue of releases.
