They easily cemented their place at the top end of the Power Metal league table.

Hammerfall are one of the founding fathers of the Power Metal scene. With their first album, 'Glory To The Brave', now almost twenty years old, the band have forged a legacy that few others who play in this genre can match. Right from the off new album 'Built To Last' is a release that reminds you just why they are such a great and important act within the scene and it's a record that reminds you of their earlier opuses. Yet keep listening, and you will soon find that up-to-date sound that Hammerfall have been working towards for all these years, something that is sneakily lurking just under the surface. The music itself is played with a potency and power few others can match and the band, consisting of long time members Oscar Dronjak, Joacim Cans, Pontus Norgren, Frederik Larsson and David Wallin, have, with 'Built ...', easily cemented their place at the top end of the Power Metal league table.

Just put it on, turn up the volume and get ready for some face melting Power Metal to start hurting your eardrums. Take a listen to 'Bring It!' or the raucous and brilliant 'Hammer High', the latter making you imagine that you're a Viking and has you putting the colander on your head, a bed sheet around your shoulders and using the cricket bat in the cupboard as your sword [now there's an image – Ed]. You can Rock out to 'The Sacred Vow', the blistering, gale force attack of 'Dethrone And Defy', the wonderfully played and arranged ballad 'Twilight Princess', the commanding title track and the killer closing track 'Second To None' and you'll soon know that your witnessing one of the best bands there is playing and recording Power Metal.

Hammerfall can be very proud of this album. It demonstrates just how, when a group of like-minded individuals get together and love the same thing, glorious music can be made and that we, as the audience, are the beneficiaries of this. Hammerfall are a band that on this showing are 'Built To Last', and long may they continue to entertain us. Great album.
