These German masters have got it right.

Rock Wolves is a gathering of three of Germany's most renowned Rockers from the last three decades – drummer Herman Rarebell (Scorpions/Temple Of Rock), Michael Voss (Mad Max/Casanova) on vocals and guitar along with bassist Stephan "Gudze" Hindz (H-Blockx). The ten tracks presented here, which were also produced by Voss, blend the trio's musical influences into a set of powerful Classic Rock songs.

As the first few chorused guitar notes of Voss' guitar ring out on 'Rock For The Nations' before breaking into what is a great driving song with a catchy sing-along hook, it's obvious this is a high class production. 'Surrounded By Fools' takes a heavier, darker approach as Voss gives a stellar vocal performance whilst also pounding out lick after lick of pure guitar heaven. 'Out Of Time' kicks in with elements of the Scorpions coming through, but also has a feel of Iron Maiden with its solos and general progression.

The next track comes as somewhat of a surprise as the Heavy Rock gives way to a healthy dose of AOR in the form of Jim Vallance's 'What About Love' which was a hit for Heart back in the eighties. Rarebell and company's version does the track justice and shows how the trio are not one-trick ponies. 'The Blame Game' and 'Riding Shotgun' continue in the AOR vein before the Rocking ballad 'Nothing's Gonna Bring Me Down' kicks in. This is a real lighter-waving song to get your emotions going!

Turning the Power Rock dial back up we move into 'The Lion Is Loose' with its slightly quirky lyrics, before heading to one of the main highlights of the album. 'I Need Your Love' has all the essential ingredients for a true classic. It moves at a slower pace than some of the other heavy tracks but contains a solid, heavy guitar backbone which ebbs and flows as Voss digs deep to bring out a gritty side to his voice which is full of intensity, before switching into a soulful Bluesy tone in the quieter parts which makes this song sparkle.

With the Rock pedigree contained within Rock Wolves, it's hardly surprising that this outfit have been able to deliver such a varied musical palette, but retaining a consistently high standard of both lyrical content and musicianship throughout takes some doing and these German masters have got it right.
