A very talented young woman and a name to keep your eye on for the future.

Stefanie Johnson (no relation) was raised in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. From a young age she had a passion for music and loved to write songs that she would sing and record into her Grandfathers old tape recorder. As she grew older, she learned to play the guitar which aided her song-writing and broadened her musical horizons. In 2011 she took the leap and went to Nashville to hone her song-writing craft and while there she performed at the legendary Bluebird Café. This drive to become a journey(wo)man song-writer has led Escape to sign and release Stefanie's first album. I'm happy to say that it didn't take long for me to become a big, big fan of this lady's music which, it has to be said, has a wonderful Melodic Rock/Nu-Country (hate that description) feel to it and if I said the name Jamie Kyle to you, you'd get an inkling of what Stefanie's musical style is all about.

Yet none of this would matter if the voice and musicianship didn't match the quality of the songs. Thankfully they both do. Stefanie's plaintive mid-western vocals blend beautifully with the musicianship of Paul Franceschini (guitar, bass, drums) and Brian J. Anthony (keyboards) with the added bonus of some big name special guests in Paul Crook (Meat Loaf), Ken Dubman (Prophet), Charlie Calv (Shotgun Symphony) and Punky Meadows (Angel) lending a helping hand.

With regards to the actual songs, I'll highlight a few of my favourites and leave you to discover the rest. 'Master Of Disguise' is very melodic and catchy with a big hook, 'Everything You Need' is a love song for the 21st century, again with a killer chorus, and the breathtaking 'Hello Love' is a simple ballad with a superb lead vocal from Stefanie that shows off her voice to full effect. This self-titled release also includes 'One Life' which is catchier than the measles and the stunning 'In Her Shoes', a song that really shows what a great lyricist Stefanie is. Finally, there's the beautiful 'The Song I Was Meant To Write' where her sweet vocal delivery draws all the emotion possible from her lyrics.

If you like anything by Kyle, Martina McBride or Faith Hill etc., you'll enjoy this album by Stefanie. A very talented young woman and a name to keep your eye on for the future.
