This is simply good time, foot-tapping, sing-along stuff done well.

So what can you say about a band who offer "Hard Rock with a kick-ass guarantee" and whose AC/DC, ZZ Top and NWOBHM-influenced sound "triggers symptomatic hullabaloo and hully gully"? Well, I can say this – if Rock and Roll is supposed to be fun, then these guys are right on message.

'Diggin' For Gold' isn't the most original album you'll hear this year, or possibly even this week, but hell, there's an energy and passion here that'll carry you along and put a smile on your face. There's just enough Sleaze to keep things edgy, but enough style and substance to keep the Sleaze in check.

This is, in fact, the German band's third album, with previous outings garnering critical praise in their homework and the new album showing the band's determination to pursue their goals "with tireless persistence and top song material".

The material here is catchy and entertaining throughout. 'Diggin' For Gold' (the title track) sets the tone with its high-energy Rocked-up Rolling Stones vibe. 'Older Than Dirt' and 'Like A Shot Of A Gun' see the band wearing their AC/DC influences on their musical sleeves. 'Holy Molly' is wonderfully quirky and laced with a good dash of ZZT style and humour, while 'City Of Dreams' and album closer 'That's All I Want' also run off cool ZZT-influenced grooves. Also of note is the Funky fun offered by 'Hole In The Wall' (someone find that man a cashpoint).

Some of the entertainment comes from the lyrics, fuelled no doubt by the language barrier. "Is it true what people say, that bads are good?" asks singer and guitarist Tom Schaupp, as he expresses his love of "boots to the knees – blondes up down to the butt" ('Bad Girls Good Loving'). "I don't need your parentical care" he tells his woman in 'That's All I Want' – and one can see why, with so much hard lovin' to do. "Call us dukes of the ass-kick," they say.

But even amongst the lyrical awkwardness, there's the occasional neat line taken directly from the Rock and Roll school of well-earned rhyme. "I lie here naked on your bed, you cashed my money, don't leave me honey" – simple, but effective.

There are hints here and there that the Razz might be more than a bunch of overgrown party boyz, but overall this is simply good time, foot-tapping, sing-along stuff done well.
