LaceBlack - Metalworks (The Monarch), London (UK) - 25 June 2017

Courageously, at a venue known for Metal cover performances, Lace Black launch into a set of original material from their debut album. I was fortunate to have previously reviewed it and so knew the songs and I am delighted to say they are Rockier and, in my opinion, even better live. While Luca Celletti is still the main talent, there's a different backing band to the musicians on the record – currently Francesco Savarese and Nicola Di Gia (both guitar), Massimo Marraccini (drums) and Fabrizio Ruggiero (bass and backing vocals) – and maybe that accounts for the meatier sound. Whatever the reason, the Rocked up versions of the songs live are very much to my taste.

LaceBlack Live

Opener 'Truth Is On Our Face' is melodic and stylish while 'A Little More Than Too Much' allows Celletti to get in David Coverdale Rock scream mode, leaving no doubt the genre in which he shines. Savarese's haunting and feeling guitar solo stood out in 'Butterfly' and 'Old Souls' creates a smoky nightclub atmosphere with more of a mellower feel. The keyboards on 'It's All Gone' reminds me of an Aerosmith ballad and indeed you may recall Celletti's name from his spirited and accurate renditions of covers of Steven Tyler & Co in the excellent tribute band Eurosmith.

Fireworks - The Ultimate Magazine For Melodic Rock Music

Celletti has much of the sex appeal of Tyler on stage and could well be his younger brother, with charisma dripping from every pore he makes even whistling look sexual and demonstrates his confidence on stage by coming into the audience and engaging every front row member with eye contact – scorching stuff! It was a short set as the opening act and went all too quick which is a shame as Celletti was just getting started.

LaceBlack Live 2

It may be a small gig, but some people play like they are in a stadium no matter where they are and Lace Black's vocalist Celletti is one of those. He has that indefinable star quality that means whenever he sings all eyes are nowhere else. If you get a chance catch them live!
