If you can get past the fact that it's all sung in German, then you might just find this Wunderbar.

The original purveyors of their self-styled "Streetcore", this German band's sound has evolved over their eight albums (since 2001) into Punky Melodic Metal. Although it's sung entirely in German, even for someone like myself whose German only extends to being able to order bread rolls, it is still fun to be around. What recommends it are the bludgeoning melodies that, despite the language barrier, compel you to sing along as if in a bierkeller with your best mates.

Daniel Schulz comes from the Udo Dirkschneider school of singing as he tries to clear the phlegm (or is it bile?) from his throat throughout. His approach suits the material and he's backed more often than not by backing chants from the band. The riffs are simple, direct yet judderingly effective and the solos vary from full-on flame thrower, as on 'Willkommen Im Klub' ('Welcome To The Club'), to a scattergun sound, to be found during 'Reden, Lästern, Lügen' ('Talk, Blasphemy, Lies'), and machine gun intensity, as within 'Komm Mit Mir' ('Come With Me'). The Metal crunch and Punk on speed during 'Kommerz (Die Geier Kreisen Weiter)' ('Commercial (The Vulture Circles Next') will get the crowd up and pogo-ing in no time. It's all wrapped up with a terrific production sound with each instrument thumping out of the speakers like a mule kick to the head.

Man Of The Match award goes to the drummer, the aptly named Hinni Hammer who plays furiously enough to produce smoke. Songs on this album come in two types; the first is fast and the second is even faster. Although their origins are Punkier, their present sound is more Metal; pure Teutonic power – think Accept. There's also a touch of Motörhead influencing '...Klub' that could incite some good old fashioned head-banging. The Punk vibe here is less about mindless aggression and more about a call to action. The blistering 'Bis Zum Letzten Ton' ('To The Last Tone') zips along at pace like Green Day if they were to take a cocktail of speed and steroids.

If you can get past the fact that it's all sung in German, then you might just find this Wunderbar.
