Title

Genre

A well-executed album of eighties style music designed to keep Classic Rock fans of that era happy.

The debut album of Italian guitarist and song-writer Daniel Gazzoli is described as being influenced by Dokken, Ratt, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, House Of Lords and FM. That's an illustrious list, if ever I saw one.

The opening riffs of opener 'Night Hunter' is certainly a reminder of Dokken and the vocals of HOL, so the album does not appear to be mis-sold too much and it is indeed a commercial slice of Hard Rock. Follow-up track 'Forged By The Pain' is fast-paced and, as you'd expect from an album masterminded by a guitarist, has some nice guitar influenced perhaps a little by Yngwie Malmsteem. Even though it has a much subtler chorus, it nevertheless has an infectious pace. 'Liar' is a lighter track with a nod towards British AOR act FM, although the guitar solo has more of a classical bent. 'Self Destruction Blues' (not a cover of the Hanoi Rocks track of the same name) has the sound of a late eighties Hollywood Strip band and, despite the title, is more of a Sleaze/Glam track à la Electric Angels or D'Molls than anything else, despite a slight Hammond Organ interlude.

'Heartblame' has BJ style keyboards and a catchy chorus with pared down, chunky guitar that reminded me a little of Robin George's work, as did the next track 'Run'. 'Prayer For An Angel' is a slow sentimental ballad; it's a little saccharine but not a bad song of its type, if that's your bag. 'Don't Leave Me Alone' has another classically-influenced guitar solo and some great eighties-style vocals. 'The Beat Of My Heart' is more early Iron Maiden-like albeit mixed with the straight-down-the-line Rock sensibilities of bands like Heavy Pettin'.

Overall, 'Night Hunter' is a well-executed album of eighties style music designed to keep Classic Rock fans of that era happy. It's a bit of a mixture of styles from within the eighties genre, but still a debut with some promise.
