Midnite City - Tap and Tumbler, Nottingham (UK) - 20 October 2017

Midnite City is the new band from the current Tigertailz front-man Rob Wylde. This was a showcase of eight songs from their new self-titled debut album. Cleverly organised before Rockingham (opposite where everyone was collecting wristbands), this was a great meat and potatoes offering, provided at the right place and the right time while people were still eager and before anyone had a chance to be tired or hungover. The place was packed thus giving the event great energy and also proving the appetite for straightforward Hard Rock with a Glam edge is still alive and well. As such the new album appeared to be selling like hot cakes.

Midnite City Live 1

Like most spontaneous events, they did suffer from some technical problems, but Tigertailz has clearly made Wylde a seasoned front-man and he took losing his monitors in his stride and carried on delivering regardless. Confident in their new material, they only performed new Midnite City songs with no Tigertailz material and they didn't need to. They were playing to a receptive crowd and he was giving the people what they want.

Fireworks - The Ultimate Magazine For Melodic Rock Music

Striking with his full head of white blonde hair and proving without monitors that he has a good voice and plenty of style, Wylde has found a group of keen musicians including a couple of really young 'uns alongside veteran Pete Newdeck on drums (from Blood Red Saints) that believe in the genre and perform it with the optimism and enthusiasm of a new relationship. The material was melodic with simple human emotional subjects, so love songs, a bit of sex and tracks about good times with friends.

Midnite City Live 2

Harmonies, big choruses and virtuoso shreds, the sound at times veered towards American bands like Journey, but it also had the freshness of a new band that leviathans cannot provide. Although they sometimes used backing tapes for a big sound, they were also clearly skilled musicians and the performance was short but sweet. Even though the material was brand new to most people in the crowd, it went down extremely well coming across as accessible and direct.

Blonde ambition and why not! If this was my album launch, I would have been proud.
