Its many charms will begin to make you wonder if the man can do no wrong.

Barely an issue of 'Fireworks' goes by without some mention of a new Ginger Wildheart release, whether it be the near extreme Metal of Mutation, the Pop-Punk of Hey! Hello! or, as in the case of 'Ghost In The Tanglewood', a solo album. One of the most untethered artists in terms of genre or expectations, there's little doubt that Wildheart does what he wants, and one of the things that he's always desired is to record a Country album. 'Ghost...' goes some way to scratching that Wildheart itch; utilising fiddle, slide and a decidedly twanging guitar, the likes of 'Golden Tears' and 'The Words Are Gonna Have To Wait' certainly aren't as riff-led or joyously abrasive as we're used to and yet, if you've followed Wildheart's solo career, then the musical themes are still unmistakable.

An unexpected cover of the Steve Earle classic 'My Old Friend The Blues' proves a brave and inspired choice, while it also fits in beautifully with the honest, candid lyrical ethos of this album, with Wildheart giving an insight into his struggle with mental health issues, and the battles he has to face with them on a day to day basis. They are topics close to his heart and are handled with a real deftness of touch.

'The Reaper' and 'The Daylight Hotel' are both remarkably uplifting as they reveal demons to be stared down and overcome, only to know that they'll return at some point, possibly armed with reinforcements. The album's crowning glory, however, may well be the ghostly, atmospheric 'Phantom Memories', a dark shimmer of vocals and drums somehow providing the most stick-in-the-mind melody this hugely memorable set of songs contains.

You simply can't pigeon hole Ginger Wildheart, however, there's absolutely no mistaking his musical touch. This album sounds like nothing else he's ever recorded, but then it simply couldn't have come from anyone else other than him. If you loved 'Market Harbour' or 'Valor Del Corazon', you'll adore 'Ghost In The Tanglewood'. Its many charms will begin to make you wonder if the man can do no wrong.
