An aural experience that any self-respecting Prog fan would be a fool to let pass by.

Hollow Water are in effect the Welsh duo of Alan Cookson on keyboards and Huw Roberts on guitar, and they have been producing instrumental music since 2012. However, for this album they have temporarily added a bunch of musicians from Europe and the US; the vocals are provided by Britain's Mark Lock, additional guitars by American Matt Quistorf, drums by Swede Siros Vaziri, with bass duties provided by fellow Swede Jair-Rohm Parker Wells and Serbian Damjan "Stryfer" Kapor. Ilia Skibinsky from Germany and Nate Madsen from the United States provide the sax playing.

The album is entitled 'Rainbow's End' and its concept is about three people who bond together to search for the rainbow and whose adventures lead them to a strange dimension. An integral part of this experience is a twenty page album booklet and an eight page comic book. We are in full-on Prog territory here; King Crimson, Yes and Pink Floyd influences come through but there is so much more to it. There are soundbites interspersed between, and incorporated within the songs, pub quiz results, weather reports as well as a song intro on a radio show.

'Day In Day Out' starts off things with the pub quiz intro, swirling keyboards give way to a very fine guitar workout instrumental, all ending with a minor earthquake and a weather report. Each song brings something different to the whole; 'Illusions & Delusions' has an eighties Hawkwind feel to it, 'Immortal Portal' starts off Trance-like before the guitar riff comes in and heavy's it up a bit, whereas the title track has a Steely Dan funkiness to it. The musicianship throughout is exceptional at the very least and the production is big, thus providing an aural experience that any self-respecting Prog fan would be a fool to let pass by. It nods to its influences and also brings to it its own uniqueness.

This album really needs to be listened to as a whole. Put aside the time, get comfortable in your favourite chair then play this through your headphones or speakers (it's your choice) and let Hollow Water take you on a journey to the 'Rainbow's End'.
