Ticks all the boxes if you like in-your-face Rock music with interesting lyrics and fine musicianship.

I have to be honest and admit that I'd never heard of Belgian quintet Diablo Blvd before our Reviews Editor sent a copy of 'Zero Hour' in my direction. The band were formed in 2005 by vocalist Alex Agnew and have previously released three albums. The latest record features stunning cover artwork by Hedi Xandt and is the follow-up to 2015's 'Follow The Deadlights'. The band have toured extensively and have previously opened for Epica, Machine Head and Life Of Agony, amongst others.

Agnew and the rest of his band must be pretty angry with what's going on in the world and have therefore decided to make a political statement through this album. A message on their Facebook page confirms this – "In troubling times like these, there can never be enough bands using their music and lyrics as a platform to protest. 'Zero Hour' is our contribution to that statement". Opener 'Animal' explodes through the speakers and the song's lyrics reinforce their angst, while the production is superb – take a bow Dag Taeldeman. Whilst I was playing the album, Mrs. Chaudhry came into the room, firstly asking me to turn down the volume, and then to question whether I was listening to Shinedown? She has a point, as Agnew sounds very similar to Brent Smith in the vocal department, he has a strong voice with great range. Diablo Blvd's music is not a million miles away from Shinedown's and there are also hints of Danzig in there as well.

'Sing From The Gallows' contains some fantastic guitar interplay from Andries Beckers and Tim Bekaert, and the guitar work on 'God In The Machine' is very Iron Maiden-esque. 'The Song Is Over' has some nice drum fills from Kris Martens and Jan Rammeloo's bass work is solid, yet simultaneously inventive. '00:00' is a short instrumental and begins with an acoustic guitar and is akin to Metallica's slower tracks; a cello also plays over the latter part of the number. It is a nice break to the rest of the album's incessant brutal power which returns during 'Like Rats' – great lyrics by the way! 'Demonize' is an awesome Rocker with a nod to Alter Bridge during its lengthy musical passage, and features brilliant guitar work once again.

'Zero Hour' ticks all the boxes if you like in-your-face Rock music with interesting lyrics and fine musicianship. Humanity's time is over, 'Zero Hour' is here!
