Where have all the flowers gone? GospelbeacH could open a shop.

Rather like another excellent item I have reviewed elsewhere this issue, Sunshine State Rockers GospelbeacH have expanded their itinerary from their debut, much like Perfect Blue Sky blossomed from a rather tentative first album. Now Brent Rademaker and the boys have said hello to a new record. They may mention the Burrito Brothers brilliance of Gram Parsons as an influence, but what we have here is the Fleetwood Mac finery of Christine McVie.

Yes, that sound of FM – soft Yacht Rock – is where a lot of bands are headed at the moment and that could make this a bore, but when the songs are flavoured with Crosby, Still, Nash & Young harmonies and a touch of Roy Orbison sweep, there isn't much chance of that.

Take 'Sad Country Boy' which just rolls, a Fender adding glorious plinks as a chorus hangs, inviting us to try it. Opener 'In The Desert' reminds us there's a thousand things they want to say to us, crystalline guitars and floaty CSN&Y moments exhorting us to stay. 'The City Limits' and 'I Don't Wanna Lose You' are a sip of modern doleful, smooth excellence, likened to Father John Misty and John Grant.

This is clearly lovely to be with; Johnny Neiman's keys work is so soft he probably leaves no fingerprints, whilst Jason Soda has a brittle beauty in his guitaring and Rademaker seems to have a bare but warm voice. Yes, it's a cliché, but this is all about what they leave out, the spaces, the air which shimmers around these sunny, super songs.

Clearly aimed at the summer and titled to wallow in the dappled days of verdant vitality, this will cosset you, tickle you and delight you. Where have all the flowers gone? GospelbeacH could open a shop.
