What this album probably made me realise, more than anything, is that I have actually turned into what I viewed my parents as in the seventies.

Eternal Fear are a five-piece band from sunny Sweden, and 'Killing Time' is their fifth studio album. I should have known what to expect from their name and the album's title.

The opus begins with an air raid siren, then the heavy onslaught takes over. 'Thy Will Be Done' is a typical Heavy Metal scenario, fighting for the dark lord, wandering through ruins scattered with lots of dead bodies – all very cheerful! Musically it wouldn't have been too bad, but the chorus was ineffective and the drums too high in the mix. Back in the seventies, Alice Cooper's drummer Neal Smith had a kit of around twenty drums or more (always one more than Keith Moon) and even he didn't sound as loud as these. 'Age Of Glory' continues in the same mood – fighting, killing, dying, blood... oh yes, and glory of course. As it went on it became obvious that nothing was going to change, and it got worse when the drums went a thousand beats to the minute in 'Black Country'; anybody who reads my reviews will know I just love it! (In case you haven't read previous reviews by me, that was indeed sarcasm).

The title track sounds okay at the start, then it turns into one of those songs where the band go tonally deaf and just stick any old chords together, whether they work or not. 'Halls Of Odin' is the best track on here by far, but doesn't leave the overall theme – "Let Me die in this battle tonight". How depressing! Strangely, 'Chamber Of Lies' sounds a little like Ghost, with a steadier pace and toned down a little, and therefore a little more interesting to me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there will be plenty of younger Metal fans that will love this, but what this album probably made me realise, more than anything, is that I have actually turned into what I viewed my parents as in the seventies, when they thought the music I listened to was "a row" (not a line of objects!). Maybe this is true and I have grown too old for this, but I like to think of it this way; I have seen many bands and I can listen to Judas Priest, Threshold, Black Sabbath, Devin Townsend, Avenged Sevenfold and Korn, to name a few, so what's the difference? Maybe just diversity (not the dance group!).
