Featuring plenty of fine guitar work, a thumping rhythm section rounded off by a fine vocal performance.

Tainted Lady are a young Danish-based band fronted by English singer Michael Catton who joined the band in 2015 with 'How The Mighty Have Fallen' being written and recorded in 2016. The album was recorded at the Medley Studios and produced by Soren Anderson who has previously worked with the likes of Glenn Hughes and Electric Guitars. The band has been influenced by Classic Rock acts such as Deep Purple, Skid Row and even The Beatles, and have toured recently with both Purple and Pretty Maids.

Opening track 'The Witness' is somewhat strange, being only twenty-six seconds long. It is well enough sung in a Folky sort of way but I don't really get it. 'Set Us Free' comes next and is more like it with good Rocky drums and guitar lead in to the song. There are some really good dueling guitar solos with only the mid-section outburst/rant on the state of Rock music sort of spoiling the groove of the song for me. This is followed by the interestingly titled 'Ampburner' which is a mid-tempo number that fairly Rocks along with a Joe Elliot style vocal. This precedes 'Song Of Reckoning' and 'Loverman' which are both fast-paced Led Zeppelin-influenced numbers.

Things are then slowed down somewhat with 'The Best Days', an acoustic offering with a great guitar line and some beautifully vocals by Catton. It sort of reminds me of a cross between 'Soldier Of Fortune', Stairway To Heaven' and 'Child In Time'. 'Open Minded', a Purple-esque Rocker, 'On The Loose' with its Dio-like introduction and 'Sons Of Guns' take us to the album's closing track, 'Last Of Our Kind', which has a Guns 'N' Roses feel to it.

'How The Mighty Have Fallen' is an album of songs that have varied influences, with none of the tracks sounding too much like any band in particular. This is certainly an impressive debut and in Catton, TL have a very talented vocalist. Stand out tracks for me on this release would be '...Days' and '...Kind' which showcase the best of what Tainted Lady have to offer. I look forward to seeing how the group progress for their next release. This is an album that should appeal to those with a taste for Classic Rock music, with it featuring plenty of fine guitar work, a thumping rhythm section rounded off by a fine vocal performance.
