Ape Shifter are a three-piece German outfit that offer a mixture of hard hitting tunes and Progressive musical elements under the banner of Instrumental Rock.
The influence of Hawkwind and Monster Magnet is all over 'Uhluhtc', with big punchy riffs that morph into Space Rock jams that never seem to know when to end. Guitarist Jeff Aug has a chance to showcase his guitar chops during 'Revolution Summer'; it's one long blast of guitar heroics that you will either love or always press the forward button to.
Many of the wonderful songs on offer here sometimes get lost in a musical soup of guitar riffs and stomping rhythms. 'Desert Rock' and 'Dopomatic' are just crying out for a Ted Nugent vocal. There is no denying the technical proficiency of these guys. The fact they are an Instrumental band will set them apart from the competition, though lessen their overall appeal, so already they have reduced their market. Seven songs in, 'Dead Tuna Boogie', despite its seductive Blues influence, becomes just another guitar work out.
