Does not succeed like its predecessor.

Italian Alterna-Electro Rockers The Shiver return with 'Adeline', the follow-up to the impressive 'The Darkest Hour' and the third long player in their discography. This Female-Fronted quartet, with vocals courtesy of Frederica Faith Sciamanna, deliver music that will draw immediate references to Evanesence, The Unforgiven and Murder Of My Sweet. Sciamanna's voice is as strong as it is delicate and her performance is beautifully in tune. However, anticipation of new material faded because 'Adeline' does not succeed like its predecessor.

Firstly, the album's production is relatively poor. The overall mix is muddy and lacks the sparkle '...Hour' enjoyed. In addition to many other moments on the album, the chorus of 'Awaiting' is considerably distorted and distracting to what is otherwise one of the album's peak moments. The title track and 'Wounds' are two other highlights, yet each suffers due to woefully out-of-place ambient passages tagged on the end of each. If using these passages to otherwise tie songs together in the context of a concept album (a format that TS should entertain on a future release), their purpose would be more appropriate and justifiable.

Shortcomings aside, the album includes quite a number of golden nuggets sprinkled throughout. In addition to the opening track, 'Light Minutes' and 'Pray' are two more selections that provides insight to the quality TS is capable of delivering. 'Miron-Aku' shows the band at its heaviest, juxtaposing some outright dark and vicious vocals against detuned guitars with everything countered nicely by a big, melodic chorus. The album's final track, 'Electronoose', is an instrumental that shows how the band can fluently blend Electronica, Heavy Metal and Alternative Rock. However, with a duration lasting just over three minutes, it does not give the song enough time develop the favourable bits contained within thus elevating it to something much more impressive and grandiose.

Band and album taken as a whole, The Shiver still present their music with a unique flair, and have a talent of blurring the lines between multiple genres of Hard Rock music. However, those would-be fans might be better informed to check out '...Hour' before jumping in and giving 'Adeline' a fair chance. On the other hand, existing fans might find a bit more to enjoy here, yet it is encouraged to all of those willing to take the plunge to sample prior to purchase.
