This album is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of his finest, as wonderful and fresh as 'Bridge Of Sighs' all those decades ago.

Robin Trower has been making music for half a century; he hasn't achieved the household name status that the likes of Eric Clapton, Jimmy David Gilmour or Jimi Hendrix have. He would not have the fashionistas paying multi-hundreds for concert tickets, but for those of us who have loved him for years, he is undoubtedly one of the greatest British guitarists this land has ever produced.

'Time And Emotion' comes fairly hot on the heels of last year's wonderful 'Where Are You Going To', and there is always a concern that a yearly album is just a "churn out". Opening track 'The Land Of Plenty' is Blues Funk re-made for the 21st century, usually it is bass and drums that provide rhythm but with Trower it is the use of wah-wah pedal and the lilt of his voice that provides a soothing sway.

Trower admits he was influenced by Hendrix and 'I'm Gone' is a song that you probably would have found on a 2017 Hendrix album if there could be such a thing. 'Returned In Kind' is seven-plus minutes of Hendrix-like meandering through a Psychedelic landscape that ebbs and flows likes waves on a shore. Trower has always had the ability to weave his music around you so it becomes an almost synesthetic experience, it's like being cocooned in a multi-coloured fog.

'You're The One' is deliciously lilting, with a distorted guitar overlaying a melody that tastes of sea winds. We switch to laid back Bar-room Blues for 'Make Up Your Mind' with searing, mournful guitar solos.

'Try Love' is just lusciousness, the more you listen, the more you hear, the bending notes punctuated with little accents that you barely notice, but like salt and pepper, you'd notice their absence. The album finishes up with title track 'Time And Emotion' – classic Trower.

This album is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of his finest, as wonderful and fresh as 'Bridge Of Sighs' all those decades ago; that it has been released in his 72nd year gives you an indication of what a remarkable musician he is. Old fans will most certainly not be disappointed and for anyone reading this who doesn't really know who Robin Trower is, do yourselves a favour and buy 'Time And Emotion', it will be the best introduction ever!
