Seventies style Hard Rock delivered by a consummate power trio.

The press release accompanying 'The Evolution Of Love' suggests that fans of Rush may be drawn to this Neapolitan trio's music, though what's clear from the undulating grooves of instrumental (one of four here) opener 'W3/79' is that The Steel are themselves certainly affectionate devotees of the Canadian act. Another band that's namechecked in the release is The Winery Dogs – yet another power trio, no less – and comparisons can indeed be drawn between '...Love' and The Dogs more Progressively-flavoured second album 'Hot Streak', as personified by the retro strut of 'You Got That Feeling'.

'The Walking Dead' is an altogether more Metallic affair and, thanks to its heads down guitar chug and guttural chorus, it will certainly find favour with Thrash enthusiasts. The largely instrumental 'The Five Lands' and its crisp acoustic guitars is a little reminiscent of the opening section of Ace Frehley's 'Fractured Too', while 'Take Me Away' is this reviewer's pick thanks mainly to guitarist Marco Perrone's classy, clean-of-tone but delightfully dirty riff.

'Mainline' sounds like a Rocked-up sixties The Who/Small Faces number, thanks to the spaciousness afforded to Rino Musella's drum fills and a chorus that's highly evocative of the aforementioned acts, whereas singer/bassist Tiziano Favero demonstrates his vocal versatility on the reflective 'Loneliness'.

No mention is made of a keyboard player, but their contribution to the inventive instrumental 'Metaphysical Journey' is well worth a mention – Favero's bass chops too. 'The Eden', ninety-seconds long, preludes the muscular title track leaving closer 'Lucy Is Coming' to add some funky scratch-guitar to the mix.

If a blend of Rush and grittier, seventies style Hard Rock delivered by a consummate power trio appeals, then you'll undoubtedly consider the money spent on The Steel a steal.
