Another Melodic Metal album that both represents and celebrates the genre.

It's always a crucial time in any band's history when it's faced with changing its lead singer. Significant or not, a new voice will always exert some influence over the ensemble's sound, and even its artistic direction. While the change can serve as a platform to attract new fans, it has the potentially dangerous consequence of alienating existing ones. While most established acts carry on unperturbed, this band, previously known as KIRK, thought enough about the change in front-man to embrace a new band name as well. Now performing under the moniker Gods Of Silence, 'Neverland' is hardly a rookie attempt, since two full-length albums were recorded under their previous moniker.

'Neverland' is positive proof that the collective experience amassed by the band and the addition of a new singer has served them all well. Resulting in a mature and well-executed album, it fires on all cylinders. While there is certainly a Progressive element to the music, unpredictable changes are kept at a minimum, with tempo, melody and musicianship conforming to what has become expected of any band writing in this style. The lyrics are again true to style and full of fantasy ('Demons') and fictional intrigue ('Full Moon').

The name Dennis Ward is synonymous with great production, so it should come as no surprise that his contribution to 'Neverland' takes a good album and makes it great. The presence of Gilbi Meléndez is immediate, and his vocal talent will not take long to appreciate. His powerful delivery, wide range and rich tone soar easily over the rest of the band. The album is a very balanced effort, Gods Of Silence never stepping outside of the predetermined boundaries, but what they do inside them is most enjoyable.

'Neverland' balances grace and aggression with aplomb, and no single musical idea is ever done to excess, making this a very engaging listening experience. Fans of the project band Allen/Lande (featuring Russell Allen of Symphony X and journeyman singer Jørn Lande of Masterplan, Arc etc.) will quickly see how essential this album is for their collection. Without question, the artfully crafted 'Neverland' is worth seeking out, and it's another Melodic Metal album that both represents and celebrates the genre.
