If you have the time and patience, then 'For The Record' will unravel many glorious hooks and melodies.

'For The Record' is the third album from Seven Hard Years (7HY) and it finds former Shy drummer Alan Kelly (guitar, bass, drums, keys, backing vocals) once again teaming up with American vocalist Shawn Pelata (Line Of Fire). This time, they are joined by The Parallax Method guitarist Danny Beardsley, who produces several stunning solos throughout, and rhythm guitarists Eliot Kelly and Andrew Chick. As was the case with last year's 'Stories We Tell', Chick also mixed and mastered the album.

The album kicks off with the mid-paced rocker 'Never Say Goodbye' which comes to life with the first of many excellent guitar solos. 'Burning Rain' would have been my personal choice for the opening track and is the first indication of the development in the band's song-writing; in particular, an increased emphasis on the harmonies and melodies. The catchy 'Nothing Hurts Me Like You' continues with the big harmonies, whilst 'Uprising' and 'Be Who We Want', the latter with an enchanting chugging riff, are at the heavier end of the spectrum and sure to feature in any live performances. A great vocal arrangement within 'Can't Let You Go' perfectly segues into the ultra-melodic 'That Song' – my personal favourite on the album. A haunting piano melody is the backdrop to the emotional ballad 'Strangers Again' which features another excellent guitar solo courtesy of Beardsley.

'We Can Be Strong' is a straight-ahead Melodic Rocker that utilises great backing vocals in an echo-style fashion. The urban legend and conspiracy theory behind Paul McCartney provides the story behind the captivating 'I'm Gonna Be You', thus proving that you can literally write a song about anything, whilst 'What Love Can Make Me Do' is based on the TV drama 'The Secret'. This whole album has a Rage Of Angels' vibe – think Melodic Rock with Progressive undertones. The latter is exemplified by the excellent closing track, the six-minute 'What Is The World?', which wouldn't be out of place on a Magnum release.

Fans of the 2014 debut 'No Place In Heaven' and 2016's sophomore album 'Stories...' are sure to love this release, but hopefully this album will see Seven Hard Years gain even more fans. It is not an album if you want instant gratification, however, if you have the time and patience, then 'For The Record' will unravel many glorious hooks and melodies.
