A statement of intent that says "we're coming for you all... guns blazing!"

Scotland's Comedy Of Errors return with a new album entitled 'House Of The Mind', and yet, if you're a fan of old, there's something different in the water at Errors Central. The album itself deals with, and I quote, "... an exploration of the Jungian unconscious and non-linear time", therefore it's not your average dungeons and dragons Prog release then!

Their glorious mix of British Neo-Prog has, for me, always brought to mind IQ, Pallas and mid-era Yes, now something quite different has been added to the mix. This time, the band's clever and joyful Prog has been joined with an almost ELO/10cc-like Pop edge. This has worked so well within the new songs that as the album comes to a halt you'll find your finger hovering over the play button to start the whole thing once again.

'Tachyon' immediately shows what I mean in terms of being different. Opening with a keyboard lick that wouldn't be out of place on the new Cats In Space album, Comedy Of Errors soon settle in and the song races along with guitars, keyboards and the wonderful vocals of Joe Cairney all joining together to great effect. Title track 'House Of The Mind' begins with a Yes/ELP style keyboard riff, and this musical theme continues throughout the length of the song. The guitar interplay of Sam McCulloch and Mark Spalding during this offering is amazing to hear, but again, it's Cairney's vocals that drive the music to its powerful conclusion.

The beautiful instrumental ballad 'A Moments Peace' gives the listener time to breath, until the band strike back again with 'Song Of Wandering Jacomos'; a track that, at first, reminds you of Marillion meeting Camel in a dark alley, but in the end, it ultimately just reminds you of Comedy Of Errors. It's the charm and fun they seem to have while playing their music that shines through in every note and lyric played on the song.

While the Europeans and Americans seem to dominate the Prog scene, there are British bands out there who have, like a stick of rock, the word "quality" written through their very core. Comedy Of Errors are one such band and 'The House Of The Mind' is a statement of intent that says "we're coming for you all... guns blazing!"
