P.A.F. - Patent Applied For (Feat. Pata and Nobuo Yamada)
-> This release is absolutely wonderful! It's an underrated opus from 1998. Pata, X JAPAN's guitar player, and Nobuo "NoB" Yamada, MAKE-UP/GRAND PRIX/DAIDA LAIDA, joined their forces to record an excellent Melodic Hard-Rock album. It's in japanese, but who cares?

Guess what I'm listening to Axldobby - yes, it's the 2CD compilation of Quiet Riot that you kindly made for me!

I'm just coming to the end of the second disc now.

I find I'm not particularly fond of their earlier material, when they were little more than poor clones of SLADE (and of course their big hit was a Slade cover!!). However, I've really enjoyed all the tracks from 'QRIII', 'Quiet Riot', 'Terrified', 'Down To The Bone', 'Alive And Well', 'Guilty Pleasure' and 'Rehab'. They have a much meatier and at times bluesier sound in these later albums from what I have heard.

Thank you so much for sharing with me - a job well done!!

Paul

I find I'm not particularly fond of their earlier material, when they were little more than poor clones of SLADE (and of course their big hit was a Slade cover!!).

This is a paradox, indeed!

"Terrified" is an absolute must have. The bass player involved in QR for the album, Kenny Hillery, committed a suicide in 1996... What a bad event... I have always thought that his involvment in "Terrified" was one those elements which made this QR's release an exceptionnal opus.

"QRIII" sounds more Melodic than the other albums, it sounds more or less AOR. That's something particular to 80's bands: in mid 80's, most of those bands tried an AOR approach.

"Down To The Bone" is completely underrated and rare/hard to find, to be honnest. But it's of course an interesting opus.

"Alive And Well" and "Guilty Pleasure" were a kind of come back to "Metal Health".

And "Rehab", a come back to their early years feat. late Randy Rhoads.

All in all, my dear Paul, you can notice that QR always stayed loyal, always played Hard-Rock. A true and respectable Hard-Rock band, in my opinion!
