Born in Nottingham and raised at Rock City, Steve has been a Manchester resident since 1986 when he relocated to attend University and the famous Hacienda where he flirted with Funk and has never really lost the love, hence his constant arguments that Purple's ‘Come Taste The Band’ needs reappraisal. He recounts that music is his lifeblood and happiness and remembers well his slumbering Rock love, centred around the names Asia, Marillion and Dio, two of whom played Rock City and Nottingham's Royal concert hall. Music has remained a constant and the work he does for both Fireworks and Powerplay (plus others that will let him) is an omnipresent joy and a privilege: something that he never forgets; being able to push new bands and enjoy older ones makes him smile almost every day. It is something that he hopes will continue…at least until he can no longer hold a pen (which he reckons will probably only be another six months the way he is going!) He comments that “Fireworks is entertaining, refreshing and a fantastic service. It connects you to new, brilliant music; what could be better than that?” In an odd career (he works for a trade union, making Britain a better place, he says, and aiming for a Socialist state…everyone needing something to aim for. Or that Reef reunion!) his focus is to bring learning to those of every age, something else that makes him smile. |
