Martin James has produced a very detailed biography of Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters et al fame. Written with passion and a fondness of Grohl, it tells of the steady rise of his star from his Washington DC "harDCore" days, his instant stardom in Nirvana with 'Nevermind' to his current position as front-man of the FF. The other and more interesting ascent is told in as much detail – that of his musicianship from being the new drummer in Nirvana to award winning multi-instrumentalist and song-writing front-man.
Underlying this, the book repeatedly states how hard working Grohl is; some of his solo songs were written in his Nirvana days and after summoning up the courage to be the front-man with his drive and talent, he become unstoppable.
The book states, and I have read it before, what a nice guy Grohl is; a family man and someone who doesn't always take himself seriously – see the video to 'Learning To Fly'! With the plethora of Kurt Cobain books out there, it's nice to see a bit of balance and read about the third man of Nirvana. By the way, the book states Grohl was a very important third ingredient in the band.
