There have been a number of books on Queen to date, but there is a place for this one as it captures the essence of the band perfectly. Packed with fantastic photographs of the band member (not focussing just on Freddie Mercury) which follow a biography pitched at the happy balance of a bit of detail, but not too much. There are some nice touches such as essays on each album written by well-known Rock pundits, which results in a balanced view of the proceedings. The book does focus somewhat on the barometer of whether the US were interested in the band; it would seem Queen's fall from grace started with the 'I Want To Break Free' video and from that point their touring in the States petered out.
The book covers the triumphant and relatively near back-to-back recordings of 'The Miracle' and 'Innuendo' with great respect and the account of Mercury's tragic death from illness is necessary but not overly poured over.
Facts and figures are included such as all the tour details from when they were a small band to being one of the biggest touring bands in the world. If you are looking for a well-illustrated and comprehensive book on Queen, look no further.
