Veras - 'Never Give Up'

An album very much for the Rocktopia demographic.

Danny Veras, hailing from Spain, possesses an impressive pair of pipes. Having sung in U.S. band 7 Months, he has created a mammoth album with help from various luminaries; those being Paul Sabu (Sabu, Only Child), Eric Ragno (White Sister) plus Thorsten Koehne and Pete Newdeck from Eden's Curse.

As a result, the sound is big and classic with Ragno's keyboard very up in the mix, very strong backing vocals and a breathy but powerful Bon Jovi-esque performance from Veras. As for the songs, all bases are covered – heartfelt verses, giant choruses and giant guitar solos. To sum it up, this is close to Melodic Rock nirvana that you could expect on a cold December weekend.

Opening track 'Hellrider' covers the lone wolf story and starts the album off in the right mode with a catchy solo full of punchy keyboard stabs and a solid beat throughout. Things notch up a gear with the anthem entitled 'Road Runner' which takes you back to the 1980s Hair Metal heyday with guitars out of control and lots of sonic layers. 'Back In Town' is a big song; a power ballad with an extra splash of a solid Rock guitar solo and an over the top production. Other notable songs are the haunting ballad and title track 'Never Give Up' and the closer 'T.V. Scream' with its unusual orchestral chorus on top of a Rocking pre-chorus (plus an awesomely fast guitar solo by Koehne).

Although clearly a team effort by this talented set of musicians, this album succeeds very much in showcasing the vocal talents of Danny Veras. This is a genuine Melodic Rock album full of the unashamed clichés of the genre; an album very much for the Fireworks & Rocktopia demographic.
