Martina Edoff - 'We Will Align'

Martina Edoff is currently one of finest female vocalists on the Rock scene.

Martina Edoff, Sweden's undisputed Queen Of Rock, returns with her third solo album which caps a prolific period since 2014. Edoff had been a familiar face in the Swedish music industry, both as a backing singer and a vocal coach. Following on from 2015's 'Unity' which she recorded with the backing band of H.e.a.t, Edoff has again teamed up with H.e.a.t's keyboard wizard Jona Tee as the main co-writer and producer. She has also co-written with such luminaries as Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse) and Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big). Edoff's band now consists of Tee along with guitarist Stefan Bergstrom and a rhythm section of Nalle Påhlsson (bass) and Björn Höglund (drums) with the final mix being done by the legendary Tobias Lindell.

The album kicks off with the intense 'Turn Our Pages', a wonderful scream then into a heavy yet melodic beat, very reminiscent of a Female-Fronted Eclipse, Bergstrom's ripping guitar and the backing harmonies giving the track amazing depth. The powerful, modern sounding 'Alive' has a melodic feel but it always has that kick waiting for you at any time. The title track is classic Edoff but this time on a far heavier note with a huge chorus and some soaring guitar; a definite standout.

'Lay Down Your Arms' shows a moody side to Edoff's voice, then the beautiful ballad 'Face the Mirror' brings the pace of the album down before eventually building to a wonderful crescendo of sound – it's my favourite track. There is then a return to the heavier stuff with 'Set You Free' which has a pounding beat featuring some great guitar work. The album continues apace and finishes with the anthemic 'Brand New World'. In truth, it's hard to find a weak track on the release.

This album is much heavier than the previous two records but that doesn't come as a surprise when you look at who is involved. Edoff's voice is like an angry Ann Wilson at times, yet still has that unique pitch to make exclusive to Edoff. The songs are well written with catchy choruses, and as you would expect from a release from the Swedish production line, it has a polished sound. This is an album that will be lapped up by fans of powerful Female-Fronted Rock; Martina Edoff is currently one of finest female vocalists on the Rock scene.
