Bangalore Choir - 'Cadence'

A Rocktopia user review by Speedy Hicks.

Talk about bad timing, way back in 1991 Bangalore Choir released one of the most satisfying debuts of that generation, sadly the Los Angeles scene was being swamped by the miserable gloom infested Seattle upstarts that content with a lumberjack shirt and a bottle of depressants gave us grunge.

Fast forward 19 years, and that Seattle fad is a distant memory and thankfully Bangalore Choir have another chance to get the recognition they deserve. The question is “does Cadence light the touch paper?” The answer is a resounding "yes" and with a few plays you begin to realise this album is an altogether brilliant piece of work. Opening track is the riff heavy “Power Trippin” and instantly you recognise the old formula of Dave Reece’s”vocals and those chunky hooks from original guitarist Curt Mitchell and Andy Susemihl of UDO fame that push the sound way up into the outer reaches of the stratosphere. “Living Your Dreams Everyday” takes the listener back to a time when vintage Whitesnake were the name on everyone's lips and shows why Melodic Rock is thankfully on the rise in terms of popularity once again.

“High on the Clouds” and “Surrender all your Love” are a couple of up-tempo rockers that gives “Cadence” an album which contains all the styles and tempos that made the debut “On Target” such a classic. Thankfully that album has been remastered and re-released in the last few months so I can retire my old vinyl copy as well as look forward to “Firefest 2010” in England In October where the band will be playing. Any of the songs from “Cadence” will sit nicely alongside the older material in a live setting with such a talent as “Dave Reece” at the mike these new songs will stand the test of time for that I am sure…essential listening for old and new fans alike.
